The Byron-Bergen Central School District Board of Education received a mid-year update on the district strategic plan at its Jan. 14 meeting, outlining seven outcome areas aimed at strengthening staff practice, student behavior, curriculum alignment and family engagement.
The presentation described specific actions under each outcome: professional development in trauma-informed strategies and Function Based Thinking to support staff self-efficacy; use of an SEL Playbook and schoolwide expectations; vertical curriculum reviews for ELA, math and other subjects to align with the Science of Reading; and grade-level town halls at the Jr./Sr. High School to refresh core values. The update also called for twice-yearly SEL benchmarks and refined attendance protocols that emphasize Tier 1 teacher responses. No formal vote was required for the update.
