Byron-Bergen board previews $28.93M budget, sets May 19 vote and a transportation proposition

The Byron-Bergen Central School District Board of Education on March 12 received a presentation of the proposed 2026–27 budget totaling $28,930,059 and a proposed tax levy of $9,719,641, a 1.54% increase from the current levy. Business Administrator L. Prinz and Superintendent P. McGee told the board the district plans a $100,000 transfer to the Capital Fund for door and hardware upgrades in the elementary 100 wing and outlined Proposition #2, a transportation proposition to purchase two 70-passenger buses and a seven-passenger minivan for a cost not to exceed $408,500.
Prinz and McGee advised the board that per statute the budget hearing will be held May 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Jr./Sr. High Auditorium and the budget vote will occur on May 19 in the Sr. High Gymnasium from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The presentation also included routine reminders about candidate eligibility for two open three-year Board of Education seats, and an explanation that the district will present an Intermunicipal Agreement (IMA) related to the GV BOCES capital project at a future meeting. "The proposed budget for the 2026-2027 school year is $28,930,059," the administrators said.
