Edgewater council approves design work, seeks FIND funding for boat ramp and police boathouse

The Edgewater City Council voted unanimously April 7 to approve additional design and engineering services and to authorize filing for financial assistance from the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) to support a boat-ramp facility north of Boston Whaler and a police boathouse. Council directed that $45,000 in consultant services be funded from police impact fees to complete the design phase.
Shailesh Patel, a consultant with Dredging and Marine Consultants, said the city secured additional FIND support during application preparation and urged accuracy in the packet numbers used for the resolution. "So now you've got even more money coming from FIND," Patel said, describing a recent $24,000 increase the team was able to add when finalizing the application. He also said a bathymetric survey and design decisions would determine whether dredging is required and, if so, "we'll get a sense of exactly how many cubic yards we're gonna go." Council members and staff said the next steps would be design, permitting and a future request for construction match funds if FIND grants are awarded.
City staff and council explained FIND generally offers up to 50% cost share for eligible projects and that the council would return for additional authorizations for construction-phase matching funds. The motion to approve the FIND application and the added design services passed by roll call with all members voting yes.
