Huachuca City reports positive interim finances, flags landfill fund

Town staff reported an overall positive fiscal position for Huachuca City through Jan. 31, saying revenues exceed expenditures by roughly $231,000 on an unaudited basis.
Ruben Villa, who presented the monthly financial summary, told the council the report covers seven months (59%) of the fiscal year and cautioned that "these numbers are unaudited and are subject to change." He said most departmental budgets are under or close to projections, and that sales-tax reporting lags may lift receipts in the coming months.
Villa singled out the landfill fund as the only area of concern, saying the town expects grant proceeds under the GADA program that will be amortized over 10–15 years and will free up dollars in the landfill fund for other uses. He told the council staff will reexamine line items that exceed budgeted amounts and reallocate where needed during the budget process.
Council took no formal policy action on the report itself but used the update to direct staff on upcoming budget steps and public-notice procedures.
