Huachuca City moves to update animal code, backs Cochise County shelter

The Huachuca City Council authorized staff to prepare ordinances to update the town’s animal code and voted to send a letter supporting a proposed Cochise County animal shelter in the town.
Chief Berry told the council that the proposed amendments would remove outdated sections of code related to the town animal shelter and would make cooperation with the county easier if the county locates a shelter in Huachuca City. Manager Suzanne Harvey said partnering with Cochise County on a shelter would benefit the town. The council authorized drafting of the animal-code ordinances and voted to authorize submission of a letter stating the town’s support for the proposed county shelter; both motions passed unanimously.
No funding commitment for a local facility was made at the meeting; the council’s action was to authorize ordinance preparation and express support for the county’s proposal.
