Residents urged Huachuca City officials to make a heavily used crosswalk by the Circle K safer after two speakers described near-misses and a struck pedestrian.
Lonnie Brock told the council the crosswalk’s lights are not visible to approaching drivers and called for a safer installation. Tami Ackerson said her daughter was hit while using the crosswalk properly and said "cars do not see the lights and stop," urging the town to install improved warning or controls.
Mayor Johann Wallace later told colleagues the matter has received coverage from KOLD and KGUN9 and that a meeting with the Arizona Department of Transportation is expected next week to discuss possible fixes. The council did not take formal action on the crosswalk at the meeting; Mayor Wallace and staff indicated next steps will include follow-up with ADOT and further discussion at a future meeting.
The public-safety concern was raised during the Call to the Public; residents and the mayor framed the next step as coordination with state transportation officials rather than an immediate in-town capital appropriation.
