Treasurer raises concerns about county animal-control agreement, after-hours coverage and billing detail

Treasurer Mindy Olson said she had followed up after the prior meeting and spoken with County Commissioners Racer Woods and Mike Wankel about a proposed county animal-control agreement. Olson said the commissioners indicated the agreement is the standard one used by surrounding communities, but she relayed village concerns that the contract does not lock in a set rate, does not provide detailed per-incident reports (who called, what service was provided) and appears to exclude after-hours responses, which would push some calls to police.
Olson said she and President Richard Samples will meet the county commissioners Monday to press for more detail. Trustees discussed the village's option to let the agreement lapse temporarily while staff evaluates alternatives and the implications for police response when animal-control officers are not available after hours.
