Canyon receives clean audit for FY2024–25; commission approves reports

The City Commission of Canyon voted unanimously March 17 to accept the financial statements for the City of Canyon and the Canyon Economic Development Corporation for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2025, after a presentation from auditors.
Finance Director Joel Wright introduced John Merriss of Doshier, Pickens & Francis, who presented the audit results. "The City of Canyon and the CEDC are doing good and received a clean audit for 2024-2025," Merriss said, commending staff for record-keeping and the plan to rebuild reserves to the levels cited in the City Financial Policy. Merriss also praised Wright and EDC Director Michael Kitten for preparing a professional audit package for review.
Commissioners did not request additional action after the presentation. Mayor Pro-Tem Cody Jones moved to approve the audits, Commissioner Danny Potter seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. The audit covers the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2025, and the commission directed no further immediate actions beyond accepting the report.
The audit presentation noted the city's plan to rebuild reserves; specific target amounts and a timetable were referenced as existing in the City Financial Policy but were not specified during the meeting. The approved audit report was prepared by Doshier, Pickens & Francis and will be part of the city's official financial records for 2025.
