The South Burlington City Council on June 29 voted to set the FY27 municipal operations tax rate at 0.5345 and a total municipal tax rate of 0.5550, and to set three installment due dates: Aug. 18, 2026; Nov. 16, 2026; and March 15, 2027. Finance Director Martha Machara presented the recommendation and the supporting revenue analysis.
Martha Machara said assessed value growth this year came in higher than projected, noting "the ground is grew 1.62, which is a little bit above what we had projected," and explained the municipal portion of the rate is the item before the council while the state's education tax rate is still awaited. Councilors asked about timing for printing bills and mail-delivery concerns; staff said education rates may arrive within a few days. A motion to set the municipal rate and installment dates was moved, seconded and carried with all present voting in favor.
The council emphasized that the municipal portion approved that night does not include the education tax rate the state sets; staff will finalize the combined bill after the state provides education-rate figures and proceed with bill printing and mailing.
