County accepts federal Safe Streets grant, awards $130,000 engineering contract

The St. Clair County Commission approved accepting the Federal Highway Administration 'Safe Streets for All' (SS4A) grant to develop a comprehensive safety plan and temporary demonstration projects across the county and its municipalities. The commission also approved awarding RFQ 2026-40 for engineering services to Sine and Associates, at the grant-allocated amount.
County staff described the grant’s scope as including a countywide safety plan and demonstration projects; staff said the FHWA agreement and its deliverables include design work that Sine and Associates would perform. “It’s, per the agreement, with Federal Highway…it’s to be a 130,000,” the county engineer said when asked for the engineering- services amount. Commissioners approved the agreement and the RFQ award by voice vote and thanked staff for the work on the grant application.
The work is grant-funded; Sine and Associates’ scope will include plan development and design of temporary demonstration projects. Commissioners approved the recommendation and authorized staff to complete contract paperwork.
