Essex Junction proposes $13.5 million bond for new public works facility to replace aging buildings
Summary
City staff proposed asking voters to approve about $13.5 million in bond debt to replace an 80+-year-old public works facility, citing inadequate storage, lack of a wash bay for equipment, and a need to protect expensive machinery during renovations.

City Manager Regina Mahoney described a conceptual plan and poster for a replacement public works facility and said parts of the current complex are "well over 80 years old." She said the existing buildings are inadequate for staff and for storing and maintaining expensive equipment.
Mahoney said the proposal would ask voters to authorize an obligation bond of about $13,500,000 to build a larger garage with covered storage, expanded salt-shed capacity and a wash bay so large equipment (including the "super sucker") can be stored and maintained at proper temperatures during renovations. She encouraged public feedback before the council finalizes the ballot on March 11.
