The City of Essex Junction is asking residents to review a proposed FY27 budget that City Manager Regina Mahoney said represents a 4.1% increase over FY26. "It is a 4.1% budget increase over FY26," Mahoney said, adding the change would translate to "a $119, per year higher in the next fiscal year" for the average household.
Mahoney also offered a preliminary estimate for utility rates, cautioning the number is an early prediction: "As of right now, we are predicting that may be roughly about $217." She framed the presentation as a preview of ballot questions the council will finalize on March 11 ahead of the April 14 annual meeting ballot. The city is soliciting public input before printing ballots and finalizing the budget figures.
