Building & Grounds Superintendent Don Trail and Information Director Chris Swihart told the committee there is a one-time opportunity to coordinate conduit installation from the County Administration Building to the Courthouse and Jail with an MDOT road project. They said completing conduit now would lay the foundation for a later county-led fiber installation and would avoid higher costs and traffic impacts if done separately.
Staff provided a planning estimate that includes a $40,000 down payment and a total project estimate of $140,000 to be paid out by 2028; the estimate explicitly excludes fiber, which would be a separate project. The committee reached a consensus to recommend a resolution to the Board of Commissioners so staff can finalize the plan with the MDOT schedule.
