A contentious exchange dominated discussion as council members debated whether to reset a special-election calendar at the Board of Elections' request. Commissioner (Speaker 3) said the BOE had not accepted the original timeline and accused opponents of obstructing voters, saying “the GOP doesn't want to have elections that are in the best interest of the community.”
Other members urged caution. Speaker 4 (Commissioner Cole) asked city attorneys for a memo confirming the legality of any calendar change before the council acts. Mayor (Speaker 1) and Commissioner Sandeep (Speaker 2) said staff would prepare a revised calendar to be presented and likely approved at the Nov. 6 meeting, after which it will be submitted to the BOE for certification. The council discussed a range of options, including the possibility of changing the date internally, but did not take a vote.
