Manistee County Planning Department introduces new planner, outlines workload and interlocal work

Grace Sytsema was introduced to the Manistee County Planning Commission as the Planning Department’s newest staff member at the June 25 meeting. Planning Director Katie Gruenberg provided a summary of departmental activities from March through June, noting ongoing implementation of a zoning and blight administration contract with Maple Grove Township and efforts to obtain that township’s ordinances, permits and enforcement documents.
Gruenberg said staff are tracking hours spent on zoning and blight administration work to support future contract evaluations and to better allocate resources. The department also noted a higher volume of permit requests and zoning inquiries through the spring, which Planner Jodie Lynch reported is driving increased workload and review activity.
