Santee board adopts transportation plan, secures roughly $684,000 in new state aid

Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Dr. Marcia Hamilton told the board that the district’s transportation costs for 2023–24 totaled $1,833,518, with a district contribution of about $762,265 and mileage reimbursement costs of $132,518. "The District will receive additional funding of approximately $683,712 per year, which is approximately 37% of the total cost of transportation," Hamilton said. Director of Transportation Derrick de Geus answered board questions about compliance and implementation timelines; the plan must be adopted by April 1 to ensure eligibility for the funding.
Board members framed the funding change as a meaningful but partial relief of long‑standing transportation costs that historically exceeded the state add‑on established under LCFF. Member Tracie Thill moved approval; the motion passed 5‑0. The district will incorporate the new revenue estimate into upcoming budget planning and report back to the board on operational impacts.
