Council directs DOT study and DOT grants permission for delineators at Bannister's Wharf crosswalk

Vice Chair Seggley introduced a resolution asking the city manager to request RIDOT conduct a summer pedestrian-safety study at Bannister's Wharf and to pursue no-loading restrictions, post-mounted delineators, and HAWK or high-intensity activated crosswalk devices. City Manager Kennedy said RIDOT recently approved a plan to install 70 feet of delineators on the southbound lanes and the city expects a maintenance agreement to allow permanent upkeep.
Councilors said the intersection sees heavy vehicle, pedestrian and ride-share traffic during tourist season and expressed urgency for improvements. The council voted in favor of the resolution and administration said it will return with the maintenance-agreement paperwork for ratification at a future meeting.
