Board reviews Environmental Solutions scope for NWRA‑33 wetland cleanup

Chair Kathleen Lonergan read the amended Environmental Solutions scope of work for wetland NWRA‑33, describing targeted removal and treatment of dead shrubs, two dead oak and maple branches, selective vine cutting and limited herbicide use.
Lonergan read part of the scope aloud: “The task is for removal and disposal of several dead or dying bushes around the perimeter and wetland NWRA‑33, specifically including the two dead oak and maple tree branches, southwest portion of the area, adjacent to water lilies. We will also attempt to kill back the vines on the north side and southeast site by both cutting at the water level and selective use of herbicide.” The scope notes ES will not eliminate canopy vines but will reduce them, and will hand‑pull weeds where machinery cannot be positioned safely.
District Manager Chuck Adams said the ES work was amended and re‑submitted and will proceed; he contrasted ES’s handwork approach with A‑Z Tree Service’s forestry mulcher method, which grinds vegetation more aggressively. Chair Lonergan clarified that nothing larger than 5 inches in diameter will be removed from wetland areas and that the District Engineer coordinated the ES work plan and will determine removals that fall inside the wetland boundary.
Grounds Superintendent Tim Gatz (listed in the transcript as HPCA Grounds Superintendent) was assigned as the staff contact for follow up and coordination with the District Engineer.
