Police and fire update: community events, recent apartment fire and unresolved animal control contract

Police Chief Eric Hansell reported about a Lego contest with roughly 30 participants, two new officers who started July 18 and are progressing to the academy, and plans for National Night Out on Aug. 5 at Community Park with demonstrations and activities. Fire Chief Richie Evans described a recent apartment fire near Mower Medic's and said department members will meet to plan fundraisers the weekend after Labor Day.
Treasurer Mindy Olson said the Village still lacks a finalized animal control contract; she received notice the vendor had the state's attorney review the agreement and there has been no further response. Trustee J.W. Coleman questioned how animal control reimbursements are being justified; Olson said staff will keep working with the vendor and hopes to have an update by the next meeting.
