Fire, police and public works report activity; village announces summer events

Fire Chief Chad Vlietstra reported that in June the department responded to 174 calls for service: 119 were EMS calls, 11 were fire-related calls, 22 were fire-alarm calls, seven were hazmat calls and 15 were motor vehicle accidents. Police Chief Clint Wagner said the police department logged 556 calls for service and 71 traffic stops in June compared with 576 calls and 181 traffic stops in 2025. Public Works Director Mark Martin reported that average water intake is 361,310 gallons (the lowest in one year), the department recorded 45 water-main breaks this year and has replaced 272 lead service lines to date.
In public comment, Jim Leach announced the 33rd annual Summer Yard contest judging on Wednesday, July 29, 2026; Mayor Matthews will present awards at the board's Aug. 10 meeting. Trustee Rose Ann Diederich noted the Summer Concert series is ongoing, reporting more than 100 attendees at the June 27 concert and announcing the next concert on July 18 at 7:00 p.m. featuring Vision of Santana Tribute Band.
