Residents raise curb damage, storm debris, microphones and mosquito concerns during public comment

During the public-comment portion of the Oct. 15 meeting, several residents raised operational and procedural concerns for the board to address.
Joyce Welsh said the curbs in front of her residence are crumbling and asked about landscape storm debris removal from the streets; Chair Kathleen Lonergan asked her to provide her address to District Engineer Kurt Heath for inspection and noted debris removal was already underway. Resident Tim Sweeney asked about using microphones at meetings; Lonergan said she had submitted the request and Grounds Superintendent Tim Gatz asked to be copied on those emails. Resident Susan Napolitano questioned whether awarding a contract to the lowest-priced bidder is always best practice; District Manager Chuck Adams replied that he has worked with Premier Lakes and deems their service level superior to SOLitude.
Supervisor Janice Benedetti said a technician treated a pond for mosquitoes and identified significant issues on that particular pond. Benedetti also said a resident and a builder installed sprinklers in the lakes and suggested informing the community so other residents can decide whether they want to pay to have one installed; board discussion noted considerations about who would pay for future maintenance and electricity costs and whether to handle requests individually or set a policy.
The board directed staff to inspect reported curb issues and to continue reviewing procurement and maintenance policies related to lakeside installations.
