Board approves AP Human Geography textbook and renews AP U.S. History text

The board approved the recommended high-school social-studies textbook adoptions at its April 16 meeting. Teachers and administrators who reviewed materials recommended "Human Geography for the AP Course" (2nd edition, Bedford, Freeman & Worth) for a new AP Human Geography offering, and the board renewed the AP U.S. History text "American History: Connecting with the Past" (16th edition, McGraw Hill).
The adoption followed a multi-step review process detailed in the board packet: committee review beginning spring 2024, sample-material previews, application of the district rubric and the Ohio High Quality Instructional Materials Rubric, and a public-feedback period between Feb. 20 and Mar. 21. Board materials say 62 high-school students have signed up for AP Human Geography for the coming school year. The motion to adopt the textbooks was made by Tish Kwiatkowski, seconded by Ellen Kramer, and carried by vote.
