Highland Falls adopts local law to mirror Town of Highlands tax exemptions

The Village of Highland Falls Board of Trustees adopted Local Law No. 3 of 2025 on Sept. 2 to amend Chapter 212 of the village code so tax exemptions already administered by the Town of Highlands are visible on village bills.
The mayor told the board the measure simply clarifies how exemptions are displayed and does not create a new tax: "It's not it's not a new tax or anything. It's literally just we have to pass this in order to when you get the bills... we'll have all the breakdown of all the exemptions that we offer," he said. The resolution passed on roll call without substantive public opposition.
Board materials state the village relinquished assessing authority to the Town of Highlands in 2002; adopting the town's assessment roll ensures senior, veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance-worker exemptions appear on village billings and simplifies administration.
