Eden board elects Don Sutphin president, Jen Horschel vice president

The Eden Board of Education voted to appoint Don Sutphin as board president after nominations were opened during the meeting. A second motion supported the nomination and the board recorded the motion as passed. The chair then administered the oath of office to the newly elected president.

Board members also approved Jen Horschel as vice president; the oath of office for the vice president was administered in open session. A board member who nominated a potential alternative candidate, Jen de la Penta, said the nomination reflected an interest in intentionally developing future leadership on the board. The meeting proceeded to assign liaisons and subcommittee memberships for the coming year, including committee roles for finance, facilities and curriculum.

The leadership votes were routine motions and were adopted without a roll-call tally printed in the transcript. Members discussed committee attendance and the board clarified that members may observe committee meetings they are not assigned to so long as a quorum of board members is not present at those meetings.
