Cedar Park Council holds first reading of FY2025 budget, proposes $0.363 tax rate

The Cedar Park City Council on Sept. 5 received the first reading of the proposed Fiscal Year 2025 municipal budget and related tax-rate proposal.
Finance Director Kevin Klosterboer presented highlights of the plan, reporting a total operating budget of $203.6 million, a General Fund of $78.1 million, a Utility Fund of $43.50 million and restricted funds totaling $82.0 million. The staff presentation outlined revenue sources (including sales tax), expenditures by function, enhancements for public safety and community support, and capital projects grouped by facilities, parks and trails, and transportation. The proposed tax rate is $0.363000 for FY2025 compared with the FY2024 current rate of $0.370000; the presentation showed the maintenance and operations and interest-and-sinking splits used in the rate calculation.
Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin opened the required public hearing; no members of the public spoke and the mayor closed the hearing. The item was presented as a first reading and will return for subsequent readings and formal adoption per the city’s ordinance schedule.
The council did not take final action at the meeting; the budget remains in first-reading status pending the council’s future vote.
