Planning staff told commissioners the city council passed a short-term rental program on May 18 and staff are working to implement the ordinance ahead of its effective date.
"It's effective in 90 days, and we've had a lot of work with staff to get that going," staff said, describing an online system, a letter to short-term rental owners and a fee-collection mechanism coordinated with the income-tax office. A commissioner asked whether the program targets student housing; staff clarified short-term rentals refer to stays like Airbnb or VRBO—"typically 30 days or less." The commission was asked to monitor implementation and public outreach as staff finalize the rollout.
