The Village of Highland Falls continued a public hearing on whether to remove fluoride from the municipal drinking water, hearing more than a dozen public comments that urged both caution and further study. Several speakers, including Kathy Najo and other residents, emphasized long-term public-health evidence supporting water fluoridation, while other attendees and plant-affiliated workers raised concerns about corrosion in the fluoride feed room and employee safety.
Mayor DeSalvo told the meeting the board has received more than 100 pages of documents from the village of Walden and will post those minutes and materials to the village website. He estimated plant upgrades would be “around $250,000” as an order-of-magnitude figure and said the board will take as many months as necessary to examine the data and consult experts. The board scheduled an open house at the water plant to let residents see the fluoride room and related systems firsthand.
