Highland Falls board declares 22 Mountain Avenue unsafe, authorizes demolition

The Village of Highland Falls board voted to declare the building at 22 Mountain Avenue unsafe and authorized the building inspector to remove the structure and charge costs to the property owner. The resolution followed a due-process hearing on Aug. 4 in which the owner did not appear and the building inspector’s findings were unchallenged.
The building inspector told the board the property received a red/black placard after storm damage from the July 9, 2023 event and “meet all of the criteria of the Village of Highland Falls code … unsafe buildings or structures.” Mayor DeSalvo noted the village will place costs on the property owner’s tax bill and said the land may later go to tax sale. The motion was moved and carried by roll call; the board authorized the inspector to proceed under Village code section 776-5.
