Superintendent: roofs, water outlets and AC top the list after community 'thought exchange'

"We had 645 participants. I was absolutely thrilled that we had that many people, take part in this thought exchange," Sorticio said, summarizing 415 community thoughts and nearly 25,000 ratings. Top priorities identified were water quality and plumbing fixes, leaking roofs, air-conditioning upgrades, bathroom renovations and auditorium improvements.
Sorticio said the district has already taken immediate steps for safety and health: many classroom bubblers and drinking fountains that tested above new lead thresholds have been physically shut off and will be replaced with filtered bottle-filler stations as soon as summer work allows. He reported Eden Elementary's roof replacement is about half complete and that roofing work on the middle/high school will be phased across summers 2026 and 2027 to avoid stacking warranty expirations.
The superintendent emphasized that larger construction tied to a capital project would likely occur in 2029–30, while the district will continue to pursue shorter-term fixes to address urgent health and safety issues.
