Valerie Glover, a public commenter, told the Aransas Pass ISD Board on Sept. 8 that the district lacks dedicated behavioral support for students and urged trustees to act. "Currently, our school lacks the behavioral support and sufficient staff to support students with significant behavioral challenges," she said, adding that suspending students can unintentionally reinforce negative behavior.
Glover described barriers to establishing a behavior program — recruitment, funding, and space — and suggested interventions such as access to staff for 30–45 minute "walk‑talk" sessions or counseling to give students a safe place to reflect. She noted the district’s existing partnerships, including with Head Start, but said relying on external partners is not a sustainable solution.
The district had an item on the agenda later in the meeting approving an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding with Community Action Corporation of South Texas (CACOST) Head Start; trustees approved that amendment the same evening. The public testimony did not result in an immediate directive recorded in the meeting minutes; the board did not take a separate, recorded action on behavioral‑health staffing during the open agenda items that followed.
Glover’s comments were part of the public testimony portion of the Sept. 8 regular meeting. The board did not publicly debate or vote on a specific behavioral‑support program in open session that night.
