Board recognizes student achievements, community partner, and new food offering

The Arlington ISD Board opened its May 1 meeting with a series of recognitions celebrating student accomplishments and community partnerships. Aaron Perales shared a prerecorded video of Ashworth Elementary’s 29th annual Maypole 'Mayday' tradition, noting the longstanding partnership with Tarrant County College and naming Rayborn Sprayberry as this year’s May Queen. Venture High School Principal Greg Meeks recognized Rouguy Gningue as the May student of the month, noting her language skills and JROTC involvement, and the Miracle League Arlington received a Community Partner Award for supporting inclusive baseball opportunities.
Superintendent Smith also highlighted academic and extracurricular successes in the superintendent’s report: Martin High School placed fourth in the Texas State German Contest with senior Miah Shaffer winning top oral presentation honors; Corey Academy’s Destination Imagination team won the state and will compete at Global Finals in Kansas City; Food and Nutrition Services has piloted a new menu item, 'Smart Mouth Pizza,' at four schools with plans to expand; and Libby Deakyne of Arlington High was elected National Treasurer of the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution for 2025–2026.
