The Shelby County Commission voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2026-07-27-05, renewing the county’s residential garbage contract with Waste Away Group, Inc. and authorizing an annual Consumer Price Index adjustment. The resolution cites a 4.70% CPI increase (May 2025–May 2026) as the basis for the adjustment.
Under the approved schedule, Residential I service will move from $24.89 to $26.05 per month beginning Oct. 1, 2026; other tiered residential rates, yard waste service and optional polycart charges were also raised. Commissioner Lindsey Allison moved to approve the resolution and Commissioner Robbie Hayes seconded. The motion was recorded as carried unanimously. The contract remains in effect through Sept. 30, 2028, and the resolution references the BLS CPI series for Water, Sewer and Trash Collection Services as the adjustment index.
