The Mesquite Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a series of construction guaranteed maximum prices (GMPs) Tuesday night, including a $50,533,515 GMP 2 for North Mesquite High School.
Administration and WRA architects recommended the board approve GMP 2 for North Mesquite High School. The administration said GMP 1 was $1,670,000 (for the tennis courts), bringing the total GMP to $52,203,515 and listing a total construction cost of $59,411,594.42. "The guaranteed maximum price number 2 in the total amount of $50,533,515 as submitted," the presenter noted during the recommendation.
Trustees also approved GMP 2 for Beasley Elementary (GMP2 $2,970,207; total GMP $3,144,516; total construction $3,742,588.02), Grama/Gray Elementary (GMP2 $4,119,202; total GMP $4,882,361; total construction $5,911,917.86) and Moss Elementary (GMP2 $3,922,829; total GMP $4,125,508; total construction $4,884,306.85). Each item was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Board members asked about schedule impacts and budget. A presenter explained that weather days are included in schedules and that site sequencing (for example, finishing tennis courts before main construction) would allow projects to start on time. On budget questions for the elementary projects, administration said the set of projects was running "probably 200,000 over at the moment" but that when contingencies and allowances are settled the projects would land "at or below budget by that point." "We'll be right at or below budget by that point," the presenter said.
Actions recorded (voice votes) included a motion by Mr. Bingham and a second by Mr. Rose to approve North Mesquite High GMP 2 and similar motions for the other sites; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the public transcript.
Next steps for each approved project include final contractor coordination with architects and site sequencing; WRA and MISD construction staff were present to begin that work.
