Township approves Resolution No. 1 of 2026 with fee changes, will revisit floodplain rules

The Gilpin Township board voted to approve Resolution No. 1 of 2026 as amended, adopting multiple adjustments to the township fee schedule while agreeing to return floodplain permit language for further work. Chair (Chair) moved for approval "as amended," a motion that received a second and passed on a voice vote.

Board members and staff spent the bulk of the meeting discussing specific fee increases intended to cover staff time and inspection costs. As zoning and code official John said during the fee review, "I believe $20 is is a little low for if someone builds a 900 foot garage" and argued the existing fee structure did not cover his time. The board accepted several proposed changes in principle but removed or deferred the floodplain-specific language pending a more project-dependent approach and additional calculations requested for the February meeting.

The resolution approval was procedural: the board directed staff to prepare the amended document for signature and to bring floodplain options back for further refinement. Chair said staff would send the updated resolution to Sharon for signature and that the floodplain topic will "be on the February agenda" for follow-up. The board recorded its approval by voice vote.
