Gallup council approves series of budget adjustments, grants, appointments and event authorization

The Gallup City Council took a series of routine actions in a single session on Feb. 24, approving minutes, reconfiguring the Sports Commission, authorizing budget transfers and accepting grant funds.
Consent agenda and appointments: The Council approved the Jan. 6, 2026 minutes and confirmed all members of the Sports Commission after a legal review by the City Attorney identified holdover terms and recommended reappointment to two-year non-staggered terms.
Budget adjustments and grants: Council approved an $814,650 water budget adjustment for a Bureau of Reclamation-funded project (moved by Councilor Ron Molina), a $10,000 transfer into Fund 219 for Senior Center payroll (moved by Councilor Linda Garcia), and a $40,589 wastewater payroll budget adjustment (moved by Councilor Ron Molina). The Council also approved a $56,034 New Mexico Department of Transportation aviation grant to complete the Airport Master Plan and adopted Resolution R2026-11 to accept Water Trust Board Project WPF-6576 (NGWSP Reach 27.12).
Events and other approvals: Council approved the Best of the Best event management closeout and authorization to proceed and approved a commercial lease for police laptops (covered in a separate action item) with indemnification language for the Legal Department.
All recorded motions that required roll call passed unanimously. The Council adjourned at the end of the agenda.
