The Gilpin Township board approved a motion Dec. 16 allowing SARPD to purchase lighting for a DUI enforcement trailer for up to $4,000, to be reimbursed by a PENDA/PennDOT traffic-safety grant.
A SARPD representative explained the grant process: the department purchases equipment, submits receipts and receives reimbursement. “Purchase is $4,000,” the presenter said while describing the reimbursable purchase and confirming it had been approved by PennDOT for lighting. A supervisor moved to authorize the purchase not to exceed $4,000; the motion passed by voice vote.
The authorization is limited to the quoted amount and subject to reimbursement rules under the grant. The clerk recorded the action for inclusion in the township’s financial tracking.
Why it matters: The purchase supports local traffic-safety and DUI enforcement funded through a state-administered grant, with no net cost to the township if reimbursement proceeds as described.
