Bennet Council approves Highway 43 closure for July 4 parade and $14,000 fireworks budget

Lillie Chambers presented the request to close Highway 43 for the July 4 parade using prior years’ times and the same map. Mayor Ryan Cheney introduced Resolution 2026-2.1 authorizing temporary use of Highway 43 for the special event on July 4, 2026. Councilmember Dan Zieg moved and Pete Simmons seconded the motion; the roll-call vote was YES — Simmons, Zieg, Buck, Schmidt and the resolution carried.
Chambers also requested funding for a fireworks display tailored to the 250th anniversary of the United States. Simmons moved and Zieg seconded a motion to approve a fireworks budget of $14,000. The council approved the $14,000 budget by roll-call vote: YES — Zieg, Buck, Schmidt, Simmons. The minutes record both the closure resolution and the appropriation as carried by unanimous vote.
