Council approves permanent park lighting donation and block party for Christmas event

Kristi Sittner asked the council to approve permanent lighting for the Bennet City Park shelter, gazebo and storage shed contingent on the Bennet Community Fund raising the necessary funds and asked for city assistance with installation. Councilmember Pete Simmons moved to approve the installation and a Park Fund donation up to $1,000 with mayor approval; Dan Zieg seconded and the motion carried on a roll call vote.
The council also approved a block party application for Christmas in the Park and discussed a banner request for the Dec. 6 event. During public comment Larry Kramer noted Nebraska City Utilities cannot install the banner due to clearance issues. The minutes record approval of the block party and a separate resolution approving the event.
