The Montebello Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved the 2025–2026 Second Interim Report at its March 4 meeting and certified a "Positive" financial certification for the current and two subsequent fiscal years. Donald G. Ellingson, the district chief financial officer, presented the report and answered board questions alongside Assistant Superintendent Horacio Perez and Superintendent Dr. Mark Skvarna.
Clerk Elizabeth Cabrera moved to approve the report and to authorize the Board President to file the "Positive" certification with the Los Angeles County Office of Education; Carlos Cerdan seconded the motion. Vice President Jennifer Gutierrez called the roll and recorded all "Aye" votes. The board then declared the motion carried.
The presentation referenced Education Code sections 35035(g), 42130 and 42131, which require biannual certification of a district's ability to meet financial obligations. Ellingson told the board the district's projections assume continued state funding toward Local Control Funding Formula targets. The board's action directs the district to file the certification with LACOE as required.
