Bells ISD extends staff contracts, approves contested rehire for one elementary employee
Summary
The board extended contracts for elementary, junior high and high school professionals for 2025–26, and voted 4–2 to extend the contract of Bells Elementary employee Lauron Goode; Matt Stephens and Gary Payne opposed. Executive-session hires for administrative roles were also approved.
Trustees on March 17 approved contract extensions for Bells Elementary, Pritchard Jr. High and Bells High School professionals for the 2025–2026 school year. Most approvals were unanimous, but an extension for Bells Elementary staff member Lauron Goode drew opposition and passed by a 4–2 vote.
The Goode extension was moved by Cole Kimberling and seconded by Stephanie Nettles; the minutes record Matt Stephens and Gary Payne voting against the extension. In executive session the board later approved hiring Dr. Heather Bortz as Assistant Superintendent on a two-year administrative contract beginning July 1, 2025, and approved probationary hires for April Barnes, Kristi Taraba and Blake Berry for the 2025–2026 school year.
