Board adopts bylaw amendment and increases monthly member pay to $2,000 under AB 1390

Legal counsel Norma Copado summarized AB 1390's revisions to board member compensation thresholds tied to average daily attendance (ADA). The Board recorded the District's 2024–25 ADA as 18,807, which places Montebello Unified in the tier that allows board members to receive compensation not to exceed $2,000 per month under revised Education Code section 35120. The Board then adopted Resolution No. 9(2025-2026) to effect the compensation increase, effective Jan. 1, 2026; the vote was unanimous.
Additionally, the Board adopted Resolution No. 10 authorizing a payment for a missed meeting after finding the absence was due to illness; President Magana recused on that vote and the remaining four board members approved payment for the Nov. 19, 2025 meeting.
