The Big Sandy ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve the superintendent's evaluation and extend Superintendent Mike Burns's contract through June 30, 2028. "I move that we approve the evaluation of the Superintendent and extend his contract until June 30, 2028," Trustee TJ Wigington said when making the motion; Trustee Kathryn Vine seconded it, and the motion passed 4-2 with Trustees Will Brahic and Jamey Childress voting no and Trustee Seth Jewell absent.
Following the contract extension, the board approved a separate motion to increase the superintendent's salary by 3%, an increase of $3,900 to a total salary of $133,900. Trustee George Strub moved the salary adjustment and Trustee Kathryn Vine seconded it. The salary motion passed 4-2 (Trustees Jamey Childress and TJ Wigington voted no; Trustee Seth Jewell was absent). Both votes followed a closed-session evaluation under Government Code 551.074; the board entered closed session at 8:33 p.m. and returned at 11:24 p.m.
