The City of Lynden has contracted with Whatcom County's Jail Work Crew since 2021 for vegetation clean‑up and debris removal, including work on dry detention ponds. The crew provides transportation, oversight, tools and safety gear; tasks include weed whacking, trimming, weed pulling, and blackberry cutting.
Public Works staff said the arrangement allows city employees to focus on higher‑level duties while maintenance continues. The Public Works Committee reviewed the renewal at its Jan. 8 meeting and recommended council approval; the renewal was included in the consent agenda and approved on Jan. 21 as part of the consent motion.
