Los Lunas recognizes DECA chapter after membership nearly doubles

Mayor Charles Griego opened the meeting by asking Los Lunas High School DECA students to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and to accept a proclamation recognizing the chapter’s accomplishments. Senior Economic Developer Victoria Archuleta introduced the students and the chapter's student officers described rapid membership growth and competitive successes.
Student officers said membership rose from 158 to 314, making it "the largest and fastest-growing DECA chapter in New Mexico," and noted that 27 students qualified for international competition in Atlanta and that the chapter placed in the top 10 internationally in sports and entertainment marketing. The students said operational restrictions on the school store had reduced revenue opportunities and limited hands-on business experience; they also reported approximately $10,000 in sponsorships, including support from the Village. Mayor and Council thanked the chapter for their presentation.
