Council approves consent package including interlocal agreement, grants and budget amendment
Summary
Selma’s council approved a consent agenda that included a Johnston County fire-protection interlocal agreement, the Selma Nature Preserve engineering contract award, water-system tentative award, fee-schedule and sewer-rate items (one tabled separately), FY26–27 budget amendment No. 2, a $500,000 Great Trail grant ordinance, and participation in an NCLM mentorship program.
At the Aug. 6 meeting, councilors approved a consent agenda bundling routine and substantive items. The consent package included the recommended interlocal agreement with Johnston County Emergency Services for fire protection services for 2026–27, the recommended engineering contract award for the Selma Nature Preserve (for use of a $500,000 grant), a resolution of tentative award for Phase 2 water-system improvements, a fee schedule change for meter tampering, budget amendment No. 2 (rolling forward prior-year encumbrances and recognizing a police donation), the grant project ordinance for the Great Trail State program (recognizing $500,000 in revenues and authorizing spending), and the town’s participation in the North Carolina League of Municipalities AIM accounting and mentorship program.
Council took the items as a single consent motion and approved them by voice vote. Separately, a proposed sewer-rate increase tied to a county pass-through was discussed at length and tabled for further review; that motion to table was recorded as a separate action.
