Eric Long told the Board Pelican Sound is drafting a multi-year action plan to build resilience against storms and climate change and recommended creation of an advisory/review panel to coordinate efforts across jurisdictions and agencies. He asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and a staff or engineering contact to help coordinate when needed.
Long described a hypothetical topographic assessment in which a 10'–12' storm surge could have flooded roughly 45%–55% of the community under certain conditions, and said addressing the issue could take up to 10 years and require coordination with state, county and village agencies. "He thinks 3' storm panels would be inadequate and addressing the issue might take 10 years and require coordinating with multiple agencies; he asked for support and assistance with the initiative," the minutes record.
The Board consensus was that Mr. Long and Mr. Merrill will assist on the initiative and that District Engineer Charlie Krebs is authorized to help as necessary. No funding or formal project authorization was approved at the meeting; the item is at the planning and coordination stage.
