County project to assemble bereavement care packages; $150,000 PCCD grant application not funded

Krista Potter described an outreach project called "Our Black Rose," which will compile care packages tailored to Butler County families bereaved by suicide. Potter said the boxes are planned at $10 each, with an initial run of 30 boxes to be distributed by the County Coroner, and that the Butler County Bar Association has agreed to offer one free legal consultation per bereaved family.
Potter told the board that the county did not receive the PCCD Firearm Suicide Awareness Grant (for $150,000). She said reviewers told the county the proposal was written well but that the state had about $1 million to award and received requests totaling more than $10 million, so selection was highly competitive.
