Canutillo ISD trustees press for deeper budget review as state funding tightens

Canutillo ISD officials told the Board of Trustees on March 4 that Texas school districts are facing a financial squeeze and that the district is reviewing staffing and spending to protect classrooms. Gustavo Reveles and Cristy Pulley presented the budget workshop, describing how state funding is received and allocated and highlighting the district’s current stewardship of funds.
Trustees asked for more detailed documentation to monitor the budget, including access to the state finance document and historical staffing and program data dating back to school year 2018-19. President Rodriguez emphasized prioritizing classroom funding, noting classrooms "should be the least impacted by restrictions or budget cuts followed by campus and then central office." The board set a follow-up workshop for March 18 to permit deeper review before teacher contracts are finalized.
