Bryan ISD approved renewal of its excess workers' compensation insurance Aug. 19, renewing with Midwest Employers Casualty Company (MWECC) at a flat rate of $0.0501 per $100 of covered payroll for the 10-month policy through June 30, 2025.
Assistant Superintendent Kevin Beesaw told trustees the district is self-insured for workers' compensation but purchases excess coverage to limit losses on large claims and recommended renewal with MWECC "based on the company's financial stability and solid financial rating-AM Best of A+ (Superior)." Trustee Leo Gonzalez II moved to approve the renewal; Trustee Ruthie Waller seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The administration did not propose changes to program structure; trustees approved the renewal to maintain stop-gap coverage for catastrophic claims.
