Bryan ISD approves renewal of property, general liability and auto insurance with TPS

The Bryan ISD Board of Trustees voted Aug. 19 to approve a renewal of property, general liability, cybersecurity, and automobile insurance with Texas Political Subdivisions (TPS) for the period Sept. 1, 2024–June 30, 2025.
Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Kevin Beesaw presented cost figures, noting that "the expiring policy premium was $2,841,530, and the renewal quote is $2,760,972," a reduction of $80,558 for the same coverages and deductibles. He also said the district negotiated a 10-month policy to align the insurance term with the new fiscal-year end; the prorated premium for the short year is $2,309,941.
Beesaw explained the administration reviewed options to reduce the wind and hail deductible from 3% to 2% but determined the added premium (to $2,951,567) was not warranted given the tight 2024–25 budget and available fund balance reserves. Trustee Mark McCall moved to approve TPS as the carrier; Trustee David Stasny seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
The board did not alter coverages or deductibles as part of the approval; administration said reserves provide contingency for large deductible events.
